Physical Features and Habitat
Giant squid are mollusks with torpedo shaped bodies. The mouth of the giant squid is more like a beak and
is extremely strong, giving it the ability to tear through its food. The mouth is surrounded by five pairs of arms.
One pair stands out from the rest in that they are longer and thinner and are mainly used for capturing prey and bringing
it into the mouth. On the other end of the enormous body is the eye. This eye is the biggest eye in the animal
kingdom and can measure up to eighteen inches in diameter. The largest squid ever recorded had a body that was twenty
feet long and had arms measuring thirty-five feet long covered with four inch suckers. Squids are believed to be deep
ocean dwelling creatures. It is also believed that they do not have the ability to hold oxygen well in warmer waters.
